Wisconsin CVT Honored
The University of Wisconsin, Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine recently presented Betty Grotophorst, a certified veterinary technician in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s critical care unit, the Distinguished Veterinary Technician Award.

The presentation was made during the school’s April celebration honoring faculty and staff for their teaching and research skills.

Free Online Program Offers CE Credits
Daily Nutrition Matters, an interactive online veterinary technician nutrition learning program recently launched by Nestle Purina PetCare Co., has been approved for continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize the American Assn. of Veterinary State Boards’ Registry of Approved Continuing Education approval.

The program is featured in the debut issue of Veterinary Practice Staff, appearing in the June issue of Veterinary Practice News.

Demand for Techs Widening
The first job for about 85 percent of graduate veterinary technicians is in a private veterinary practice, with companion animal practice at the top of the list, according to the National Assn. of Veterinary Technicians in America.

However, there is a growing demand in other fields, such as teaching, military service, humane societies, herd health managers, industry, biomedical research, diagnostic laboratories, zoo/wildlife medicine, veterinary supplies sales and a regulated profession.
